Scotland have lodged a formal appeal to FIFA to increase the number of teams at the World Cup to 196, to give them a chance of qualifying, it has emerged.
Scotland reacted angrily to FIFA’s decision to increase the number of teams at the World Cup from 32 to 48 saying that still doesn’t give them a hope in hell in qualifying.
The Scottish FA spoke out against the decision saying: “The decision is a disgrace. When we heard the news that FIFA were going to open up the competition, we were really excited but there’s still no way we’ll qualify ahead of the likes of the Faroe Islands, the Hebrides or Vatican City”
“We feel that expanding to 196 countries is a reasonable compromise. Having said that, our boys will still find a way to f*ck up qualifying.”
The Scottish FA has said if they don’t get their way they will host their own World Cup, and fail to qualify for that instead.
