Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, is delighted after he gave an opportunity to the unknown Henrik Mkhitaryan and was repaid by the Armenian with 2 goals in 2 games.
Mkytrarian, 28, has emerged from relative obscurity having played for the Utd U-23 team all season, following his signing from little-known club in Germany called ‘Borussia Dortmund’ for a nominal fee of just £28 million.
Mourinho said: ‘I saw this player playing in the reserves and thought that he looked a decent prospect so I decided to give him a chance in the league cup.”
“Our policy here is to promote youth and develop players – you don’t need to go out and spend millions to find good players – you just need to have an eye for it”
“I think he’ll develop into a top player when he is older”.
Mourinho has also said he thinks there could be other gems waiting to be unearthed such as a German player called ‘Bastian Schweinsteiger’ and Brit ‘Luke Shaw’.
